London Living Lab

Hundreds of air quality sensors deployed across London to understand the environment.

I was the technical architect at Intel Labs Europe for this one. We deployed hundreds of air quality, light, and weather sensors across London boroughs — a proper city-scale IoT deployment. The work led to Climo, which won a CES 2018 Innovation Award.

We also published “Tales from the Wild,” a paper about everything that went wrong (and there was plenty). My favourite bit was the Enfield map project: we drilled LEDs into a physical map at each sensor location to show real-time air quality data. It looked class.
